As always, keep checking in to our “Upcoming Shows”section for any new tours in the future. Best wishes, WC&TCF Why hello!!
Our very own Aaron Mariash and Will Currie recently sat down with CBC Radio’s Amanda Putz to discuss the new record “Awake,You Sleepers!“ for the program Bandwidth. It was a fun time discussing music, lyrics, and dumplings! Have a listen here! Best wishes, WC&TCF ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦Awake,You Sleepers! is truly a classic pop record in the sense that, like the Beach Boys,Beatles and Ben Folds before them,Will Currie and The Country French have tapped into a musical vein through which pure, unadulterated pop gold flows. - Ground Control Magazine “Maybe I’m a bit biased, but Will Currie is one of my favourite songwriters going today. A less bitter Ben Folds? A more rocking Rufus Wainwright? Perhaps, but Will really carves out his own world on this latest recording. Aside from his thoughtful &detailed lyrics, musically Will Currie and the Country French weave musical themes throughout the LP,bringing bits of songs back into other songs to tie the work together as a whole…not unlike,oh,McCartney’s Band On The Run. I love ambitious stuff like that. So,yeah, basically I’m jealous of this record.” - Jay Ferguson (Sloan) If you dig classic pop with fantastic arrangements and uplifting melodies, there’s a very good chance that you’ll go apeshit over Awake,You Sleepers! So…what does the band sound like? That’s easy. These guys play positive pop that sounds very much like a cross between Ben Folds and Pearlfishers…both of whom just happen to be babysue favorites. The band is comprised of six individuals. Large bands can sometimes result in unnecessarily complex arrangements and too many layers of stuff. But not in this case. Each individual’s contributions lend just the right ingredients to the mix…and the sum is much greater than the parts. Consistently pleasing cuts include “Arise,Take Up Your Lamps!”,“Flowers,”“Rumble,”“Railroad,” and “Awake,You Sleepers!” Top pick. - Babysue.com ”Awake,You Sleepers! is the sound of an immensely talented songwriter fully realizing his vision and a brilliant band firing on all cylinders. It’s the real deal:bold, ambitious, epic in scope, and an extremely rewarding listen. Full of unapologetic guitar solos, lush harmonies, and made up of equal parts heartbreaking ballads and rollicking rock songs. This isn’t necessarily the hippest record you’ll hear this year, but it could be the best.” -Graham Wright (Tokyo Police Club) | |
